Every Friday I am going to write about how I have improved my life or how I am trying to improve it. This week I want to talk to you about personal development. To me, personal development means working on improving oneself by reading or listening to books that can help you with any aspect of your life.
Misconception
I started Beachbody Coaching 5 years ago and one of the daily activities we are recommended to do is read or listen to personal development. I didn’t read or listen to personal development for at least the first year of my coaching career. I didn’t think I needed to do it. I thought personal development was for people who needed therapy. I was never interested in reading books. Then I finally gave it a try and read The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. I quickly fell in love with reading personal development.
My Experience
Reading personal development has helped me have confidence in myself and believe in myself more than I ever have in the past. Sometimes we do not have people in our life telling us we are beautiful, we can do anything we set our mind to or teaching us how to succeed. Reading positive books has also helped me block out the negativity around me. In today’s world, we are surrounded by negativity. We can read positive, uplifting books and be the light the world desperately needs.
Here are some books I have.
Here are some of my books on Audible.
Give It A Try
If I could tell you to do one thing to improve your life, it would be to try reading a personal development book. You can find books on self-love, confidence, happiness, time management, organization, motivation, productivity or business management. Do any of these topics interest you? You can check out a book from the library, borrow from a friend, buy from Amazon, listen to a book using the app, Audible or listen to podcast. I buy most of my books from Amazon because I am an Amazon Prime Member. I also use the app, Audible, so I can listen to books while I’m driving or when I’m getting ready in the morning. I pay $16.05/month for Audible and I receive one free book a month.
You may be thinking you do not have time to add reading to your day. I urge you to make it a priority because it can be life changing. Read or listen to a personal development book for 15 minutes a day. Yes, you can change your life in just 15 minutes a day. My goal is to read 15 minutes per day consistently.
If you would like book recommendations, please leave a comment and I would be glad to give you a recommendation. I am always open to suggestions too so if you have a read a book you think I would like, please leave a comment on this blog.
