Do you think you remember everything you eat and drink in a day? I have found that it is very easy to forget everything you eat and drink. Years ago, I created a weekly tracker to help me start tracking the food I was eating, the water I was drinking and the exercise I was doing.
Why Track Your Food
Tracking your food has benefits. One benefit of tracking your food is it can be very eye opening. Sometimes we can forget the cookie we had at work or the candy bar we had when we got home from work. Once you begin to write down everything you eat, you may realize you are snacking a lot or that you are eating too much. Realizing this and being able to make changes can help you lose weight.
Another benefit of tracking your food is that you may even be able to find patterns. An example of a pattern could be that you snack every day at 2:00pm. This could be from being hungry or from needing to get up from your desk at work for a little break. If it is because you are hungry, you can try eating more veggies and protein at lunch than carbs. If it is because you need a break, you could try going for a walk.
Tracking Your Water and Exercise
The tracker I created, tracks food, water and exercise. I already talked about how tracking your food has its benefits. Water is very important and we should be drinking half of our body weight in ounces each day. Tracking your water will help you know if you are drinking enough. If you are not drinking enough water, simply make it a point to drink more water. Everyone knows that exercise is important. Writing down what you do for exercise each day can help keep you accountable to doing your exercise. Also, if you look at your tracker and see that you ate some unhealthy food, you can do a longer or more intense workout.
Tracking Your Measurements
The bottom of my weekly tracker has body measurements. I believe that tracking your body measurements weekly can really help you in your fitness journey. Weight does not always tell you if your fitness journey is successful. Sometimes you can be losing inches and not losing weight. If you just look at your weight, you can become really discouraged. Tracking body measurements weekly gives you a better idea of how you are doing in your fitness journey.
