I am constantly trying to improve my life. I struggle in the areas of focus and organization. Because of this, I am not good at staying on task or keeping a routine. If you can relate to me, I would love for you to have a leave a comment on this blog or email me and maybe we can help each other. My email is linseybrook@outlook.com.
I Started To Create A Daily To Do List
This past week I started making a daily to do list in the morning before I meditate. I do this before I meditate because otherwise my mind will not stop thinking while I am meditating. I wrote down the task I had to do and the high priority task were written in a bright color. The bright color catches my attention and my eyes go straight to the high priority tasks when I look at my list.
Week 1 Results
After a week of creating a to do list in the morning, I found that I was more focused this week than I have been in awhile. I loved doing this right away in the morning because it helps set the tone for the day. I also loved crossing out tasks that I completed. If a task did not get done, I copied it on to the next days to do list. This helped me remember things. I did not wake up thinking, I feel like I’m forgetting to do something. My to do list reminds me of what I need to accomplish.
Improvement #1
I am definitely going to keep making my to do list in the morning. However, I feel I need to make a few improvements to my new routine. I noticed that I do not look at my list throughout the day as often as I should. I will be honest and tell you there were a couple simple tasks I did not complete because I didn’t look at the list in the evening. As I continue this routine, Im going to try setting alarms on my phone to remind me to check my to do’s. I will probably set an alarm every 4 hours.
Improvement #2
I told you that I’m not an organized person or good at keeping a routine. My goal is to organize my to do list into categories and figure out how long tasks take me. Doing this has 2 benefits for me. One benefit is that I would learn what is actually doable in one day. If I know that I can’t complete 20 tasks in 1 day then I can better organize my week. This leads me to my 2nd benefit. I want to start using my daily planner. I buy a daily planner and every year and every year it never fails that I stop using it before March. Does anyone else do this? It would be very beneficial to me to have a consistent list of things to do and be able to know how long task take to be able to fill out my daily planner. Having my to do list organized into categories, will hep me use my planner because usually I have a list of 20 tasks and do not know how to break them down for a daily planner which shows every hour.
